This book is a clear evidence for the origins of Christianity in Karnataka emerges only from the second half of the sixteenth century. Nevertheless, within this comparatively brief span of time, Christianity has left discernible imprints on the social, cultural, linguistic, and literary life of the region. Although numerically small, the Christian community has been both dynamic and cohesive, exerting an influence disproportionate to its size. Historical narratives shaped by vested political and religious interests have, at times, misrepresented the role of Christianity in the region. Such distortions have not only obscured its positive impact but have also contributed to incidents that undermine the religious freedom enshrined in the Constitution of India. The purpose of this volume is to examine the constructive contributions of Christianity to the social, cultural, and educational development of Karnataka.
