Si tratta di un volume che riesce a mettere insieme e soprattutto ad
evidenziare la ricchezza teologica, cristologica e soprattutto
sacramentale di autori che la tradizione ha messo nelle due grandi
scuole teologiche che hanno segnato la vita e la storia delle Chiese
siriache, con studi su autori che vanno nell’arco cronologico e
geograco -ed anche cristologico- da Afraate ad Efrem, no a Giacomo
di Sarug, Cirillona, Narsai ed Isacco di Ninive. La presenza di due studi
che in qualche modo allargano la frontiera del presente lavoro, Giovanni
Crisostomo ed Agostino, danno al nostro testo un respiro veramente
largo “a due polmoni” sul mistero dell’eucaristia, che è la fonte della vita
ecclesiale e spirituale delle Chiese cristiane no ai nostri giorni.

Out of the crowded galaxy of thinkers, narrators, poets and spirituals
who spoke, wrote and interpreted the mystery of the Eucharist, a few
from a certain era have been chosen as representatives of an epoch
whose thoughts vivied the spirituality of the Church in their times and
down through centuries. Their meditations on the mystery of the
Eucharist and their reections on the centrality of the Sacrament in
Christian life have perennial signicance, and the contributors to this
volume have done justice to the Fathers of the Church as they
expounded their teaching in these pages. May the Divine Vivier who
enlightened the Fathers, light up the mental horizon of the readers to
expand their thoughts on the mystery of the Eucharist to be enchanted
by the mystery, which is the centre of Christian existence.
